Strange. You need to get yourself a good editor like vim :-) . For me, hacking existing code is magnitude times simpler than the writing new one. Wez's point seems to be that getting volunteers to get interested in contributing to a nearly finished code is difficult, but since he himself can only be involved in an advisory position, I would say it wouldn't be a good idea to start from scratch. Projects always take around 4-5 years more than the initial developer estimates. If we are looking at a 5 year timeline, then yes, starting from scratch would be a nice idea, but I think the market has matured to an extent where we cannot afford a luxury like that. > The sustainable > thing is always an issue as well, the code needs to be clean enough > that new people can pick it up rapidly - and we need to get enough > people working here in the initial phase to allow for sustained > absences from some developers. > The other thing we need to make very sure of is that the DLR > implementation acts exactly the same as the PHP C implementation > (weirdnesses and all) - that means we'll need to be running all those > tests that have been making their way into PHP CVS. > Other than people's reluctance to participate in already mature projects, I think starting from scratch would most likely end up nowhere. The issue we are facing is the reluctance of PHP community to accept or acknowledge Phalanger, and I guess, part of the problem lies in the fact that the phalanger folks didn't make this overture earlier, and try to integrate with the community till now. My vote is for just embracing phalanger, and assimilating it into PHP. Thanks.
