If your code is 'readonly' then you cannot edit it. You cannot write to something that is read only.

That is a SHA1 sum that is connected to your commit. You can tag your code with an arbitrary tag like 0.1 if you want to.

Google for the "Git Community Book", you'll find lots of helpful info there.
