You're using Postgres, right?  Either the server or the driver is broken
with respect to binary data containg "\0", I believe.

But you can handle file uploads, I'm sure.  I maintain the
apprentice.perl.org site and help out with jobs.perl.org, and with both of
them we can write to disc.  Else how could you add new components?
