There is an environment variable PERL5LIB that can be set to add directories to perl's default include path. It is, for instance, possible to add the library from a previous install to @INC.  There is some danger of incompatibility but it's easy enough to try.

$HOME/.MacOSX/environment.plist

is a file you would need to modify or create.  In it you can define PERL5LIB as you want. The format is available on Apple's site. Ask if you'd like a copy of mine. Note the dot in .MacOSX.
