Your body doesn't KNOW how to read a clock.

And given that the natural variability of daylight hours in different 
latitudes of the world is FAR greater than the one hour shift imposed by 
DST, the body is clearly capable of adjusting to waking up while it is 
darker than the clock would suggest.
