But they seem to have learned something the long, hard way by watching the results from other provinces - especially British Columbia. Our provincial tax, while not loved by many, has given us a buffer against hard times - like these current ones. The carbon tax, while not embraced by many, has given us rebates quarterly that offset any taxes we pay at the pumps. Fossil fuel industry pays the bulk of that tax. Our newest government - under the NDP - saw the writing on the wall re: the phase out of non-renewable fuels - and started to diversify to green technologies. 95 per cent of TransLink and 50 per cent of BC Transit’s fleet are electrified with battery-electric drivetrains. The remaining percentages of each fleet are fueled by renewable compressed natural gas (CNG) for longer routes that have constrained charging opportunities. And those newer technologies have kept our unemployment rates down. We are also about to get lowered auto insurance rates on top of the regular carbon tax refunds. Kenney is still hoping to get more votes by tying himself to the oil industry, which is slowly slipping into bitumen grave. Both have to go if Alberta is to survive and revive. AND stop asking the federal government (the rest of us Canadians) for subsidies and bailouts. Business Council should run a candidate against Kenney for the next election. ____________
