Carl Sagan

NASA loved Carl Sagan as a TV personality. 50 years ago I encountered a
Sagan paper that connected Carbon Dioxide to alleged global warming. Sagan
was not well educated enough to understand thermodynamics. However Sagan's
most enduring work was in the photochemistry and spectroscopies of Tholin,
the brown stain on Trans Neptunian objects. Sagan effectively disproved his
GreenHouse theory. The IR spectra of water vapor and CO2 overlap, so we call
it "heat" radiation. IR spectrometers are small and fit on a benchtop. Those
who use them are bound by the Beer-Lambert Law, extinction coefficients and
extinction depth. It is easy to measure the extinction depth of heat
radiation in air is around 1.0 cm. Spectroscopy is the science that explains
both emission and absorption of EM radiation. Consider mirages you see on a

You are looking at GreenHouse. Greenhouse only operates on the bottom 1.0 cm
of the atmosphere. Al Gore shows signs of Grandiose delirium. There is a
picture of him with hands extending from Earth to Sun. Al Gore has spent
more time promoting Carl Sagan's "Greenhouse" theory than anybody. What a
loser!
