A woman from Alabama has been slapped with a five-year prison sentence 
after pleading guilty to multiple counts of child abuse, including using a 
blowtorch on her three children under 12.

In addition to the blowtorch abuse, Ashleigh Ableman from Ariton was 
accused of physically abusing another one of her children in Geneva County 
and exposing another child, four, to methamphetamine and marijuana.

The 28-year-old reached an agreement with prosecutors this month, ahead of 
her trial dates, one of which was scheduled for Monday. The crimes spanned 
approximately four years, according to court documents.

As part of her split sentence, Ableman must serve every day of the five-
year term before being placed on probation. Her boyfriend, Howard 
Anderson, is also charged in the blowtorch case and is due to stand trial 
in September.
