A lot of houses and district heating plants around here was converted to 
or build for natural gas when they started pulling it out of the danish 
part of the north sea in the late 1970s I think. Supposedly it was 
"cleaner" than oil - and of course it wasn't import.

You may have heard that NG is not only rather more expensive these days 
and also the european supply isn't as secure as had been expected.

Anyway solar- or wind-powered heat pumps is the future (for now).
