I think you can still say 'I have a Swedish grandmother' as long as you 
are waving the flag when you do it.
Oddly, our census has a question about a person's ancestry. So many 
people were putting "Canadian' in the write-in that they finally added 
it as a category. But not until 2001 or 2006.

One of my friends uses online dating sites. She meets a lot of guys I 
will politely refer to as 'undateable'.
