I have known any number of situations in which a man started out being against family violence, but ended up committing family violence. Some people see such people as hypocrites and predators, but I have a better explanation. These people were themselves raised in family violence. They hated it, they knew that it was wrong, but they had no experience of any other way. When faced with a situation that they didn’t know how to handle, they slipped into the bad patterns of their upbringing. These people need to be taught a better way to do relationships. However the way that psychology addresses such things is wrong. If they say such things as that romantic love is narcissism or misogyny, then what they have to offer is not an improvement on family violence, and many women will choose family violence over such beliefs. In my case, I have enough self-control to keep from committing family violence. I also have uses for romantic love. I offer love without violence, which means the best of both worlds. As for these other men, more people need to understand where they are coming from. Once again, they start out from right considerations, but they don’t have adequate knowledge to keep to them. They need to be taught self-control, and they need to be armed with right arguments to deconstruct the lies with which they have been raised. Then they will be able to live up to their ideals and will make excellent partners.
