The Name Every Person Needs to Know: A Cautionary Tale

If you have seen the documentary What Is a Woman?, you are familiar 
with the name, Dr. John Money. Every single person in the world should 
learn and know this name, which is why I am bringing more attention to 
it. Even if you already know that name, you will still shudder at the 
details of what this man contributed to society.

In 2000, Oprah aired an episode titled, Why the Boy Who Was Raised as a 
Girl Forgave His Mother. In this video, David Reimer says he never 
quite fit in; he did not like Barbies and preferred trucks and building 
forts but that was unacceptable. Only four short years after that 
interview, David Reimer killed himself at 38 years old.

This past Sunday, Tom Leonard published an article for The Daily Mail 
about Dr. John Money, his twisted experiment in the 1960s, and the twin 
boys whose lives were ruined. He intends this article to serve as a 
“cautionary tale for our times.” When it comes to the historical 
documentation of John Money, your politics do not matter. It does not 
matter if you are Left-leaning or Right-leaning. But everyone should 
know about this to be better informed about the political topics we are 
submersed in today.

Born to Janet and Ron Reimer in Winnipeg, Canada, David Reimer was born 
an identical twin in 1965 and named Bruce; his twin was Brian. The 
twins were healthy, but after having trouble urinating around seven 
months old, they were circumcised at the hospital. But the doctors 
delivered horrifying news afterward. The equipment used during Bruce’s 
procedure had malfunctioned — and surgeons were unable to do any 
reconstruction. Mr. and Mrs. Reimer were told their son would not be 
able to consummate marriage or have normal heterosexual relations.

Leonard writes:

	Naturally, they were distraught. But then, a year later in 
	spring 1967, they saw John Money being interviewed on 
	television.

	A native New Zealander, the trailblazing doctor was then 
	working at Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins University, one of 
	America’s most celebrated medical schools, where he had 
	established the first U.S. clinic that performed sex-
	reassignment surgeries.

	Janet and Ron watched in fascination as the charismatic and 
	acclaimed researcher described his theory — based on his work 
	with intersex, or hermaphrodite, patients who had been born 
	with both male and female sex characteristics — that all babies 
	were ‘gender-neutral’.

Of course, the Reimers wanted their son to have a normal life, and they 
saw Money as a man with possible solutions. He persuaded them that 
Bruce should be raised female. As Leonard explains in the article, for 
Money, the twins were a perfect control group: Bruce could become 
female, while Brian could serve as a comparison for Bruce’s progress as 
a female. Money told the Reimers that for this experiment to work, 
neither twin could be told the truth.

Bruce underwent reconstructive surgery and started taking female 
hormones at 12. But Bruce, now Brenda, was ridiculed at school and 
“rejected by both the girls she didn’t want to play with and the boys 
she desperately wanted to join. She was bullied mercilessly.” The two 
hated their annual visits to Money, and the details of Money’s sick 
experiments with the twins are absolutely gruesome. Brenda eventually 
threatened to commit suicide if he had to go back to see Money. At that 
point, Mr. Reimer told Brenda the truth. Brenda changed his name to 
David, began living as a male, had his breasts surgically removed, and 
started taking male hormones. In his 30s, David became deeply 
depressed, and Brian, who had also experienced severe devastation from 
the deception, died of a drug overdose. Two years later, David shot 
himself.

It is incredibly scary to read something like this because John Money 
is the man who is considered the spiritual father of the trans 
movement. All of the phrases we hear today are because of his vast 
influence on the movement. He was the man who initially theorized this 
was possible — that you could push a child in a different direction. He 
was the man who falsely wrote that his experiment on one such child was 
successful.

People need to know this man because it appears that those who support 
the trans movement do not want to talk about him. But we need to be 
talking about him, about what he stood for, and about the facts. 
Whether you have a platform or not, it is incumbent upon us all to 
share this information so that every person knows this story.
