Central Oregon woman who forced child to eat vomit convicted along with parents

BEND, Ore. (KATU) — A disturbing case of child abuse has resulted in
multiple convictions for an Oregon teacher and her parents in Deschutes
County. 

According to court records, Sarah Session was convicted of four counts
of first-degree criminal mistreatment, two counts of second-degree
assault, one count of third-degree assault and two counts of coercion. 

The most serious charge, attempted murder, was dismissed in January.

The case drew nationwide attention, and authorities also issued a
nationwide arrest warrant last year. 

Among the allegations outlined in court documents: Session repeatedly
hit a child with a window stopper and a curtain rod and, in one
instance, forced the child to eat his own vomit. 

Her parents were also convicted during a hearing Thursday before Judge
Alison Emerson. 

Gary Hardenburg was convicted of two counts of criminal mistreatment and
one count of tampering with physical evidence. 

Paula Hardenburg was convicted of four counts of criminal mistreatment,
one count of second-degree assault and one count of tampering with
physical evidence. 

All three are scheduled to be sentenced April 3 in Deschutes County
Circuit Court, according to court records. 

Jail records show Session and Paula Hardenburg are in custody at the
Deschutes County Jail, while Gary Hardenburg is not. 

Session remains a licensed teacher in Oregon, according to state
records.
