'Beyond parody' fag crusaders in drag use young boy to convince town to become sanctuary city for transgender people

A seven-year-old boy was part of a group of activists who dressed in drag 
to lobby a Massachusetts city to become a sanctuary city' for transgender 
people.

The Worcester City Council on Tuesday voted to become a safe heaven for 
trans people as well as those who are 'gender diverse.'

The motion, which passed 9-2, was filed by resident Allie Cislo on behalf 
of the 'Queer residents of Worcester,' as reported by WCVB.

Dozens of people who appeared to be in drag passionately told the council 
they were concerned about their safety under the Trump administration.

They were joined by a young boy who demanded the city pledge to not 
recognize any anti-trans federal policies and ensure the LGBTQ+ community 
has access to healthcare, housing, education, and employment without 
fearing discrimination.

'People here are trying to control the rights of others and that's not 
right. We should make Worcester a sanctuary city for trans people. 
Everybody deserves to feel safe and everybody needs to feel safe.

'I've lived here for four  years ... my birthday is this Saturday and all 
I want is peace and for you to vote yes.

'Please don't let me down for my birthday. There are a lot of queer people 
that I love. The kids are watching and we're ready to vote you out,' the 
boy added.

The petition said 'residents' allies, request adoption of the attached 
resolution declaring the City of Worcester a sanctuary city for 
transgender and gender diverse people.'

'I need this city to protect me because the federal government won't. If 
you think you're afraid of Trump, you should see how afraid of Trump I 
am,' a woman with a blue wig and exaggerated drawn-on eyebrows told the 
council.

'If you say you're afraid of Trump, and that's why you don't want the city 
to be a safe space for trans people, you better prepare for trans people 
to make this a very unsafe space.'

'I'm shaking right now,' yelled another speaker. 'I don't want to be here 
right now!'

The petition was passed after the council's first openly nonbinary member, 
Thu Nguyen, said they were taking a hiatus from the council because the 
environment in the ultra liberal council was transphobic. 

Allie Cislo, who filed it, works as a Shule teacher for 7th graders at the 
Center for Jewish Culture and Social Justice. 

Her bio reads that she is 'committed to accompaniment through transition, 
whether that is as a birth and postpartum doula, a facilitator working 
with tweens, teens, and young adults moving through adolescence, or an 
abolitionist in collective struggle to bring forth a world without 
confinement or retribution.'

Last year, Sacramento also voted to become a sanctuary city for 
transgender people. Ithaca, New York, has also passed similar legislation. 

President Donald Trump has completed his electoral campaign promise to 
order the federal government to acknowledge only two genders - male and 
female. 

Trump issued an executive order on the day his second term began that 
called for 'restoring biological truth to the federal government' and 
signed another on Wednesday titled ' Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports. 

Before his elections, at least 23 had already either banned or restricted 
gender-affirming care.

Someone who can't determine their bedtime, support themsleves or decide 
what they want to be when they grow up don't need to decide such life 
changing matters. Parents don't need to push such surgeries that are 
elective and permanent.
