(KRON) — Police are asking for the public’s help to identify five suspects
who were photographed during a riot at a University of California Berkeley
campus event last month.

The UC Police Department released images of the five suspects on Tuesday.

Police wrote, “On 2/26/24, a riot ensued at a campus event hosted by a
Jewish student organization at the Zellerbach Playhouse. Members of the
crowd forced their way into the building, injured guests and police
officers, and caused property damage. Two incidents were classified as
hate crimes.”

University Chancellor Carol Christ said on February 26 protestors turned
violent when they broke into a campus building to stop an event featuring
a speaker from Israel. A crowd of 200 protesters surrounded the building.

University leaders slammed the protest as “unacceptable.” The protest was
organized on social media by a group demanding an end to the war in Gaza.

“The other night was harassment, violence and overt antisemitism,” said
Tyler Gregory, CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council Bay Area. “I
think there are a lot of Jewish students who are feeling alienated.”
