Millennia.  Aristotle is usually pointed to as an example of this complaint but the
reality is that there has always been a sector of humanity that felt that way.  Yet here
we are, snacking high on the food chain, watching magic picture boxes, flying higher than
birds, curing and eliminating diseases that God apparently no longer visits on us.  We
just keep getting richer and having more fun and owning more stuff and in general  . . .
just plain getting better.

Back in the sixties the over thirty crowd railed that America was rotting from within but
we're all still here.  We won the Cold War.  We're richer than ever.  We have more jobs
than people and that's with women a regular and accepted part of the work force *and*
we're still the best country on earth.

So much for societal decay.
