Hearing inmates screaming "next time, kill yourself" and "kill another f*ggot", shows that these solitary confined prisoners have been driven to their basest most violent carnal instincts. They have literally been transformed into the most violent predators on the planet.
And then we expect them not to gut the short, screechy voice, 'tude throwing millenial twat that sasses off to them after they've been released.
But of course that's someone else's problem. Until it's the commissioner's or whoever's daughter that ends up getting mauled to death.

@Zilch71 People ALWAYS forget why these people are IN prison. There are plenty non-violent offenders that are rehabilitated. These are not the prisoners that wind-up in the hole. The ones in solitary are usually violent and dangerous!

Look, the thing this documentary and you people wagging a finger aren't understanding is that this is not about rehabilitation. It is about lack of other choices. The US has a large prison population and those prisoners act out by attacking one another violently. This includes widespread rape and murder.
So tell me, if you have an inmate acting out, attacking others, and who will even use nothing more than a toilet to flood his cell, what exactly, do you do with this inmate? Do you keep them with a cell mate so not to be "cruel" and then have that cellmate end up murdered for nothing? Is that somehow more humane?
What OTHER method is there, short of isolating an inmate like that, from others? What would you do that would work so much better? If there was a better method to use on such a large population of extremely violent people, it would be used.

True, but I imagine if your 7 year old daughter were kidnapped, raped, and murdered you wouldn't care one bit if her killer was sent here.

We already had our freedoms taken away, you don’t have to go to prison for that.

Humans know how to torture other humans the best. They know what gets to a person, solitary confinement is a perfect representation of that. I do respect Dr. Bannish extremely for the good work he does. He alleviates some of that inhumane torture and treats them like a human being probably for the first time since theyve been incarcerated. Good on him, great man.

I'm a lawyer, so work with prisoners a lot. What's most difficult is during release, so many don't know what to do. They want to get things in order, but realize the hopelessness of their situation, knowing that when they get out there's a 1/3 chance they'll be homeless and unable to get a job. Even if they do leave and go back to a house, where do they go from there? They sure don't know. They have the social development of 10 year olds, not knowing how to apply for jobs, to even start living their own lives.
These problems increase tenfold after solitary.

I hope that one day we will look at solitary confinement the same way we look at 1920's insane asylums.
This is awful and needs to change. It's not even close to okay.

Wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy. Being stuck with your own thoughts and guilt, and no one to help you cope with them must kill you from the inside out. It seems like one of the worst places to be.
