By far the majority of the US states are run by the Republican party, Trump's party, and their state assemblies are mostly also run by Trump's party so unless you are implying that Trump does not have control over the Republican party, he very much can control what most of the states do about Covid.
So, go do some research to understand the distribution of powers in your own country and stop blaming Trump for for democrat negligence at the state level.

While I generally agree with you your state listing there is way off. NYC handled it well thanks to Cuomo (it was unwieldy at first but he turned it around). Shows just how much independent power the states have... 

New York is only a "Trump state" in that he does business there, he didn't win NY or CA and he's not exactly popular in either state.

Read the original post again. He said 6 of the top 10 then listed all 10. Here is a hint look for the states with R beside them not D like New York. Only those 6 Rs were being referred to as "Trump states".
Now go to the Worldometers site https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries and you can use it to look at the U.S. state by state. Do so and use the listing function for the states total cases by million population. I think the top 10 are Republican states. New York is #15. Bernie Sanders state of Vermont is dead last.

In terms of total deaths since the pandemic the order is NY, TX, NJ, CA. In terms of deaths per capita, California is at #26. Michigan on these two statistics is at places 9 and 10 respectively. See https://www.worldometers.info/...

There is always a different way to spin it. I could say that outside of democratic run cities in those states (Memphis and Nashville, Dallas and Houston, etc.) the COVID stats are very low in republican controlled counties. But seriously, it is almost like viruses spread to larger number of people in large population centers! I know it is an election year following a years long political slugfest crowned with a partisan impeachment attempt, but people on BOTH sides need to stop politicizing everything, because after a certain point it just becomes a joke. Civil discourse may be out of reach, but maybe stop and think about this for a second. Do viruses register Democrat or Republican? Come on, man!

I think with the exception of maybe Brazil there is not a single leader in the world that has handled this worse than Trump. He took a downplaying antagonistic approach that allowed the virus complete freedom in the US. FYI both democratic AND republican states are a disaster so not sure how you can say it is democrat negligence, what it was is a complete failure of federal leadership.

Second, "federal leadership"...understand that is exactly how this country was designed to work: weak federal govt doing only what it had to, states carrying most of the load for their own people. Yes, the Fed has grown in power over 2 centuries (mostly since ww2) but understand that your assertion is only "what you think should be", and that while certainly half the country agrees with you, half would prefer it the original way. It's a difference of opinion, but certainly not the irrefutable fact you seem to believe.

Forcing a private company to publish something that they don't want to is an abridgement of free speech. Seems to me that the less the federal government involves itself in my life the better. I've arrived at the belief that the people in our political ruling class have clearly lost their f'ing minds!
Since we are all celebrating the value of free speech, I'll take this opportunity to mention that I'm perplexed by claims that Trump is responsible for COVID deaths. Federal response could have been better. However, the Executive branch's response was far more proactive than leaders in the U.S. legislature and was far ahead of many state governors like Cuomo.
As I recall, Pelosi, Schumer, Biden and others attacked Trump, accusing him of being a racist xenophobe, for restricting travel from regions with high COVID infection rates. In fact, Pelosi and Schumer went on television telling the public that COVID was no big deal and they should continue their lives as normal. Pelosi, made her proclamation while standing in San Francisco's Chinatown surrounded by a large, densly packed group of people.
Honestly, I'd be willing to entertain Democrat party leaders' condemnations of Trump's handling of the COVID outbreak if the democrats had, at any time, presented alternate strategies. They didn't. They only sniped from the sidelines while the Executive branch was going all out making ventilators, finding new sources of PPE, and redirecting Federal resources to states with the highest COVID infection rates.
