 I never read Dawkins. I came to the conclusion myself that religion's a fraud thanks to being monstered into Christianity at an early age, and noticing the ever growing stench of just how rotten it really is. A stench caused in part by inconsistencies,, and the fact that Christianity's supposed loving God is a two faced psychopath where you need to perform all of these mental gymnastics and practice lying to yourself to justify it's vile actions and character.

If the religion and it's God was at all legit, it wouldn't have to resort to threats and commands to it's followers to commit violent acts on others. Nor would it have to resort to lame tactics such as "but it's a trick by the Devil!" whenever it is challenged or contradicted. This alone proves that Christianity (and Judism, and Islam which both use the same tactics) is a fraud.

Oh, so you decided to be an atheist out of narcissism. You thought you were just too good for organized religion because you’re so much smarter than everyone around you. Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.

Wowzers dude, did I ever claim that? No, I stopped being Christian because as time went by, I realized just how much of a steaming pile of shit it is. And nobody has proven that this Yahweh (or any other God) exists, let alone being the 'right' one.

It took me a long time, but I learned that anything that relies on threats, coersion, promises of some nebulous 'reward, demonizing others, and most important TURNING OFF YOUR MIND AND FOLLOWING LIKE MINDLESS SHEEP THROUGH BLIND FAITH is a scam and not any thing to be trusted. People try to protect this charade by saying "prove that God does not exist", which is impossible just like it's impossible to prove that a planet inhabited by flying unicorns absolutly does not exist. They use fear tactics such as "the Devil is putting those doubts in your head" "it's a trick by the Devil" whenever somebody starts doubting the religion, or something contradictory is discovered. As of late certain pastors have even been trying to worm their way around hard evidence that contradicts some of the stuff in the Bible, by using long, convulted explainations why the Bible says X, but reality says Y (I call this trying to intergrate this into the narritave and 'massaging' it so it fits). 

After 40 or so years I got sick of it. No, I'm not some punk teenager who suddenly decided to rebel against the parents. I used to a devout Christian (again monstered into it at an early age through intimidation and fear), but even way back then I was starting to pick up on the bullshit, but stayed with the religion out of fear of going to hell, and yes "the devil tricking me". Slowly, I got over that fear as I realized and uncovered more and more of the bullshit and contradictions. It was a very long, slow process, but I have finally broken free of the sham that is Christianity and religion in general.

I love the term, 'monstered into Christianity'...

I reckon religion is a cesspit, that's because religion is a man-made thing and reflects not only some of the good man is capable of, and this is what tricks people into falling for it, but mostly it is about the shit and hatred that man brings with him, the control, the suppression of freedom on all levels and the devolution of the individuals themselves.

You need neither god nor the church to be a good and valuable human being, you need only the will to be so and the opportunity to try.

Religion is the single most vile blight on humanity.

^they lure you in with some candy and a cute puppy dog, but once you are inside that van, you see the whips, straps, chains, blades, and other horrifying stuff you will be subjected to.

Seems to be a good analogy for religion and "the church".
