Hippie Women And Republicans

I had a college classmate who was a medical student and a Republican, and he told me that he wanted to get together with a woman who was a hippie.

My question to him is: How are you willing to treat her? I wouldn’t expose anyone I care about to mistreatment. I would help him to get together with a woman like that if he is willing to be good to her; I wouldn’t if he is not.

With hippie women, everyone wants them but nobody wants to treat them right. I have seen this in a number of situations. If a man wants to get together with such a woman, then I need to know that he is willing to be good to her before I do anything for him.

So some men think that they deserve to be with a woman like that because they’ve worked hard. They are not the only people in the world who work hard. The Chinese and the Hindus work harder than most American people. That does not justify them in being abusive jerks. Of course many are; and that has been a problem for many.

There are many situations in which people are attracted to one set of traits but value another. They get together with the women whom they desire, but they expect them to act in ways that are completely contradictory to the traits that they find attractive. Their likes and their values are not in accord. So they either get what they want and are dissatisfied with it; or they get what they value and don’t enjoy it.

I think I’m far from the only person who thinks that that is a stupid way to live.

In my case, I both like and value the same qualities. I both like and value artistic women. And I’ve had very beautiful experiences with such women.

To people such as my former classmate, the question to ask is, Are you willing to value what you like? If you get together with a woman whom you don’t value, then that is a recipe for disaster for both of you. Either the values must be brought in accord with the likes, or the likes must be brought in accord with the values. Anything else is recipe for misery.

A person like that should not get together with a hippie woman. He should get together with a conservative woman whom he can respect. Then he has a chance at happiness, and so does the woman. Whereas if he is only going for someone whom he desires, then he and her will live horrible lives.
