Jonathan Ball... arguing about veganism for 15 years or more, has achieved nothing at all

Jonathan Ball has spent 15 years or more bashing vegans on usenet driven by some kind of personal insecurity that some people might actually genuinely care about animal suffering enough to modify their diet, which he doesn't understand, and it bothers him the way these people show him up, since he doesn't really care about anything in particular. He tries so so hard to demonstrate that ethical vegans somehow have something to be ashamed of, or lack a coherent foundation for their view. So let's take it all apart.

It's something about how if you try to put together a coherent deontological non-speciesist system of ethics that covers absolutely every possible situation that could come up, you're not going to end up with something that large numbers of people are realistically going to put into practice. Like yeah okay cool, good on you. So let's see. I take a stand on not wanting to support using animals as property but on the other hand I haven't got round to doing research about which of the crops cause more animal deaths per calorie, therefore I am in some way compromised and have something to be ashamed of. Like yeah, that's the best argument anyone ever came up with, Ball. So let's see, I think the facts about coffee and chocolate production and their use of child slave labour have been repeatedly pointed out to you and most likely you haven't even made the slightest effort to even Google it, fair enough? You also must surely be aware that even putting anthropogenic climate change totally aside, every time you consume some sort of fossil-fuel-based energy which contributes to air pollution you are foreseeably contributing to the deaths of human adults who didn't in any way consent to bear the risk, because that's common knowledge, isn't it, have you made any effort at all to Google for how many deaths you're causing, or have you made the slightest effort to cut down? Or remember that time Dutch was giving me some kind of hard time about buying cotton, so okay cool let's Google that one, and oh look, it foreseeably causes human deaths from environmental pollution, doesn't it? Deaths for people haven't in any way been given a reasonable opportunity to refuse consent to bear the risk? Remember that one, Ball? Have you bothered to Google any of it at all, or done the slightest thing about it? No you haven't, because you don't care, do you, even though you proudly proclaim yourself to be a libertarian supporter of human rights, that presumably would be rights for all post-natal humans with conscious experience, maybe, or maybe pre-natal humans too, whatever.

So it's just so transparently obvious that all of your efforts to make vegans feel as though they've got something to be ashamed of would have to be based on principles which would equally condemn you, isn't it, but you conveniently ignore that completely obvious fact? Remember the very first conversation we had and you boldly proclaimed "I think you are filth"? Remember that? Do you think that you are filth, Ball? You do, don't you? We can tell. Deep down inside, you hate yourself, and that's why you put so much energy into spewing bile on usenet. It's fucking obvious. But it's not too late. You've still got a few years left to commit to a life of genuine moral integrity. Go vegan, pay for carbon offsets to offset your carbon footprint, stop buying coffee that involves slave labour, stop spewing vile sexist racist and homophobic hatred on usenet and babbling inanities, and become a better person. Admit you were wrong and you have no case. It's so easy. We'll all respect you so much more. We know you've got it in you, Ball. You can do it.
