An elderly Asheville woman in frail health living on less than $1k/month and walking with a cane drove her old Toyota Scion to Charles Carecchia's CURTIS HI-TECH in Oteen for a simple oil change. While she sat in the customer waiting room, the female mechanic knocked a huge hole in the right side of her engine. The so-called "Hi Tech" blamed the elderly woman for the damage and charged her approximately $1500 to fix the car, and would not release the car to her until she paid the money in cash. Some of this narrative is omitted for brevity.

But they just made it worse because they destroyed the engine's variable valve timing and made it impossible for the Toyota to be inspected and tagged. Now, according to the best Toyota mechanic in Asheville, the engine is trash. It cannot be practically repaired or overhauled, so he says it must be replaced, to the tune of ~$8,000. This mechanic is well-respected and has a good reputation for competency and honesty.

Carecchia's insurance company, INA (Insurance of North America), refused to pay her a cent in damages but instead hired a nest of shysters to defraud her when she filed a lawsuit to recover her losses.

A list of the shysters who teamed up against her and crawled up trees backwards to keep her from having the jury trial to which she was entitled:

Joseph IckChabad Knight, Matthew Roberson, Eddie Clontz, Mark IckChabad Shimburg, Calvin Hill, Zepper Sullivan, Dormetta Elkins, and a host of pettybags and privy purses in the courthouse, all of whom had less ethics than a nest of cockroaches.

Another sleazy, incompetent garage, Jimmy's Auto Repair in Woodfin owned by evil religious hypocrite, Jimmy Sexton, changed out the variable valve sensor for ~$380. The engine lights went off for about 20 miles and were back on again before the car got back home. Those crooks refuse to refund her money.

Honest Mike Byer's garage also changed out the sensor, but then refunded the charge in full when he found out that the oil arteries and valves which supply pressure jets of oil to the valve timing gears were clogged with sludge. Scoundrel Carecchia had installed a used valve timing cover which had been discarded at a junkyard. Now Byer says the only solution for this Toyota is a new or replacement engine. It is the same 1800cc engine as the engine in a Toyota Corolla.
