Women's' relationship with handbags may date back thousands
of years.

Researchers have discovered ancient wall carvings depicting
what appeared to be handbags designed with a square case and
short, half circle handle.

Some date back 12,000 years, which predates makeup, perfume
and hairbrushes.

   A tad "sexist" ... a "handbag" is generally useful,
   esp in 'primitive' circumstances. How better to
   carry your "stuff" ?

   But yea, they DO show up in carvings 12,000 years
   old and from across the ancient times & cultures.
   Likely go WAY WAY back, before the Ice Age, but
   there weren't many durable products or depictions
   dating that far back. Might find some eventually.

   Unclear whether "back-packs" are also ancient tech.
   They do make practical sense. Woven grass/reeds
   could easily be used - likely leather straps.
