As we said, commas and periods are "preferred" and standard inside quotation marks in the U.S., but that rule is not universal (meaning all of North America and the English-speaking world). British English puts them outside of the quotation marks (logical punctuation - argue with PJHR about this). You can also argue with Cujo about putting commas in passwords and programming strings.
