There may be a setting to temporarily disable it, but either way it won't change what other people see in your posts. I always use "_" for horizontal lines meeting with "|", though that might not always be for the best. The suggeestion to use "`" with "-" is better, but doing it that way would confuse me too much (this stuff is at the frail edge of my pathetic drawing abilities).
