Warring States

[One who] treat war lightly, [and only] honours brevity,

[Does] not understand military power.

When enemy took over control,

[One has] followed [the] army, [and] ran away [to the] north.

Soldiers [went on a punitive] expedition [against the state of] Great Submission (Ferghana) (Tai Yuan),           

Exiting [at] north, [through the] Jade Gate (Yu Men).

[They had] engaged [in the] battle with [the] enemies [from the tribe of] Dewlaps (Hu),

[At the] Peaceful City (Ping Cheng) [on the] way [to the] west.

[For] seven days [they were] cut off (without) [from their] grain for food (food supplies),

[And] several bodies [were] not complete (defiled).
