What is your "old car" ?

It's a 2000 Honda CRV, the one with a folding picnic table for the cargo 
area floor. The body is by Land Rover, for their Freelander which was a 
brief joint venture, and I love its engineer-designed practicality which 
faded after the stylists took over. Mechanically they can last 300,000 miles 
if New England road salt rust doesn't get them first. I built custom 
equipment for a living and acquired some skill with forming and welding 
sheet metal.

All body parts for it have been discontinued, unlike the 60's Chevy a 
neighbor is restoring. He can buy anything, for a hefty price. I have to 
make them.

My backup plan is test driving new SUVs with AWD and space for a full sized 
spare tire which has become very rare.  The usual donut spare won't do me 
any good on a winter holiday, everything closed, and 100 miles of icy roads 
to home. My last flat tire was on the day before Thanksgiving 2025.

Thursday I tried a Jeep Compass which I considered acceptable, its spare 
tire well is 10" high and 29" diameter. Being a Jeep they try to hide that 
it's yuppie AWD instead of macho 4WD.

While the CRV is jacked up I'm driving my 1991 Ford Ranger. Almost every 
exposed part on it has been removed to repair or replace, mainly for salt 
damage.
