Controller rubber pads turned to goo

Hello,

Not sure if anyone else still in this group but anywho, I have two 
controllers where the rubber on the back of my controller turned into 
goo after being in storage for a few years.  Was wondering if anyone had 
success removing the goo and replacing with something from the hardware 
store, perhaps.
