And, no, bacteria cannot survive in interstellar space (that is, "between stars") for centuries at a time, no way, no how. For starters, interstellar space is REALLY cold (around 3 to 4 Kelvin), and is full of radiation, which destroys DNA/RNA. And, so, if the extreme cold does not kill them, the radiation will, guaranteed. As for any fossilized remains making it to Us, such is a physical possibility but a really, really remote one! Dawn
