Of course there is. There's no model in Out of Africa/
savanna idiocy but there is in Aquatic Ape.

*This* is the gift of Dr. Marc Verhaegen.

His model is quite comprehensive. I don't agree with all
of it, of course, but the fact of a model is in itself a
major step beyond the fake science of paleo anthropology.

The good Doctor Verheagen starts with isolation on an
island. It's brilliant: Insular Gigantism! Not only is
it a thing but, according to some sources, it's more
common than Insular Dwarfism?

Why? How?

Isolate a population on an island without natural
predators and who or what are they in competition with?

THEMSELVES!

A bigger, stronger monkey is going to win against a
smaller, weaker monkey...

Now what usually happens, at least in the case of
Insular Dwarfism, is that they burn through their
resources. THEY CAN'T EAT! Suddenly the selective
pressures are on smaller members of the population,
the ones who don't need as much calories. But...

If instead of starving themselves, what if they learn
to exploit marine resources? NOW the insular
gigantism is being turbo charged by the high protein
seafood diet.

It also gets them out of the trees, onto the ground!

They don't need tails anymore, those are primarily for
balance and, in many cases, gripping... IN THE TREES!

There. ONE step and we already moved from a little
monkey in the trees to something a lot bigger, on the
ground and adapting to THAT environment...
