I naively bought a  PT1/2 to 1/4 adapter=20

The PT1/2 side works perfectly but the 1/4 does not equal a quarter inch or=
 3/8 inch. I thought I could find a reasonable diametre correspondence. A m=
m comparison between the PT sizes and the UNC sizes shows that there no com=
parable sizes and that is before you start looking at the thread pitch. In =
short, one has to wonder why Sony chose this size.
