Guess I'm the only one then. Well at least I've got another place
to talk to myself now.

Fixed a rear upper shocker mounting bolt which had pulled out half
way stripping the thread in the body, by drilling out and tapping
to fit a slightly larger bolt. Still not much difference to the
nasty noises which sounded like they were coming from the front
anyway, but everything there looks fine. So I've ordered parts to
finally build a front spring compressor and check the lower front
wishbone bushings. I'll disconnect and check the front shocker too,
though pushing on the corners of the car doesn't make any of the
noises I hear now from driving over bumps.

Lots of DIY JD115 Jag front spring compressor designs online. I'm
going for one with a steel ball and a "self-aligning washer" to
handle the pivoting motion. But I'm going to try using an old tow
ball designed to fit a coach bolt through instead of trying to
drill through a ball bearing. Those washers can be found
relatively cheaply from Chinese Ebay/Aliexpress sellers.
