Windows 7 Alienware 2010 X64 64 Bit

Ok I tried this today after creating a restore point on my alienware m15x i=
7. I happen to love the aero effect that comes with windows vista and 7, an=
d I've used stardock before back in the day with XP as well as with Vista..=
.so when I used it with vista I remembered that I had the option to keep th=
e aero effect (which as you may know is the default for capable system conf=
igurations using vista or 7 OS....important point so keep it in mind)...ok =
so after I installed...the program at first glance seemed to be operating c=
orrectly (although when I try accessing the launch icon it still gives me t=
he admin error)...when I tried keeping aero...many little, evil errors were=
 afoot...start menu was completely indiscernable, aero window top bars (whe=
re X, _, square) were sized incorrectly. The point is that the only error t=
hat I seem to receive without aero effect is the admin error. I thought I M=
AY have even heard a new sound that came with the gui...but I'm not sure it=
 actually does come with sounds...so I may just be slowly going insane...pr=
obably from spending too much time reading this thread...don't know if any =
of this is actually HELPFUL...and I haven't read every single post...but I =
don't remember anyone posting this finding so if any feedback is going to b=
e used to perfect this cool little program then maybe it will point someone=
 much more capable that I am in the right direction.

Chris, I am using the one from dell that I got from the download page for m=
y laptop. I personally have not had a single error come up and am able to u=
se all themes and options including the old Invader theme. As i have posted=
 before, the only thing that is different about how I installed mine is tha=
t I previously installed the free mycolors from Stardocks website and downl=
oaded the Breed package from another user who got their computer more recen=
tly. Then when the dell one came out, all I did was install it over the oth=
er mycolors program without uninstalling it first. So as far as I know, tha=
t is the only thing I did differently. I will point out however that I am m=
ajoring in programming and IT so I have extensively done different things t=
o windows as well as different improvements, so there could still be differ=
ent variables that may or may not be causing mine to work correctly without=
 any issues. It's hard to give a definitive reason to why mine is working w=
ithout having had the issues previously myself.


Also, I am an online poker player which is why I purchased the m15x. There =
is a program that most online poker professionals use which relies on Postg=
reSQL, called Holdem Manager. With the windows skinned, Holdem Manager (HEM=
), fails to operate and causes the system to freeze until the process is ki=
lled. Upon reverting back to default Aero theme, HEM started operating corr=
ectly. I know this request will probably fall upon deaf ears, but if there =
is any way to get the two to play nicely in the next release, I would be RE=
ALLY thankful.

Not sure if it's because CC is not fully compatible with alienguise or if i=
t's because the screen no longer turns white, but the facial recognition so=
ftware has yet to make a positive identification of my face since I've inst=
alled the windows theme...any help would be appreciated.

Ok, downloaded the "offical" linked version for the AlienGUIse. On my machi=
ne - it IS DIFFERENT than the one offered as a private download. So, with h=
igh hopes I CREATED A RESTORE POINT and installed it. Well, it seemed to wo=
rk, but upon restart would not open - kept telling me the program required =
admin privledges...I AM the admin and only account on my Area 51 ALX. I cha=
nged every setting on the loader.exe and thememanager.exe including their s=
hortcuts to run as admin, etc. Still nothing....It did let me in when I wen=
t to the program folder and directly clicked the thememanager icon. So, the=
n upon returning to windows default theme, I lost(only) MS 2007 Word icons.=
 Although a system restore was not necessary, the repair option for MS Offi=
ce 2007 in the programs features area of the control panel was the only way=
 I was able to bring back my MS Word icons. Excel, Outlook, etc. were not a=
ffected. Bye, Bye AlienGUIse X 2 Anyone else?

In matter of fact I also downloaded and installed and after tried to open "=
My Colors" application it keeps telling me that I don't have admin rights t=
oo. So I decided to unistalled untill this is fix, bwy I don't really like =
the skin/them to much, the taskbar is much bigger than the normal windows t=
askbar and I don't like things look big. Also if am I correct it doesn't co=
me with sounds or boot loader.

I'm not sure why some other people are having these issues since I installe=
d the AlienGUIse program yesterday and it worked perfectly for me and I hav=
e yet to see a require admin privileges message. The only thing that I can =
see as being different in what I did was that I previously installed the fr=
ee my colors program from Stardock and was using the Breed package that ano=
ther user provided a download link to the one from his computer. I just ins=
talled the AlienGUIse one from dell over the free my color one without unin=
stalling it first. Not sure how much, if any difference that made but what =
I do know is that I'm not getting any bugs or errors. Also for me the taskb=
ar looks to be the same size as the windows one which is quite small at lea=
st for mine. A lot of times it depends on how you set up your taskbar.

When downloading drivers, I group them in folders named after the OS the dr=
iver is meant for, then a folder named after the component the driver is fo=
r.=20

Bios Update
I updated my BIOS. May not be needed, but having the latest bios sometimes =
solves problems with new OSes. I leave this one up to you.

Install the C++ runtime and add .NET Framework 3.5 before installing Alienw=

Clean Install the Upgrade
I don't have time to do a step by step, at least these pointers should get =
you in the right direction.

When installing, Windows 10 will not detect any hard drive. Make sure to ex=
tract the Windows 7 Intel Rapid Storage drivers to a place the Windows 10 i=
nstaller will find. I put them on the USB drive I used for installing the O=
S. When asked for extra drivers, go to the "f6flpy-x64" folder for the rapi=
d storage drivers. The only way to get the folder is to extract the content=
s on the Dell installer. Once Windows 10 is installed, don't forget to inst=
all the Window 8.1 version of the driver.

If you want to do a clean install using the free upgrade, install the upgra=
de on top of the current OS. Make sure Windows 10 is activated by going to =
"System", which can be found by right clicking "This PC" then "Properties" =
in Windows Explorer. Do the clean install, skipping the serial key entry wi=
ndows when they come up. Windows 10 will automatically activate once instal=
lation is done. DO NOT forget to upgrade first, otherwise you'll have to in=
stall your current os again. Some drivers may need Windows Update to run in=
 order to install them, make sure to update.

Once done with a clean install, I used CloneZilla to create a backup of the=
 install.

That should cover everything. Hope this helps. Don't fault Dell for compone=
nt manufacturers not creating compatible drivers.
