I got a price for new hatchback gas struts from my Nissan dealer:
NZ$300 *each* (including shipping from Japan).

Unfortunately there were no third-party options and nobody would
re-fill the gas struts.

Checked a junkyard and got a pair for NZ$100, including postage from
another city in New Zealand. The only problem is there is of course no
guarantee how long they will last.

I rarely even open the hatch back, other than when checking the air
pressure in the spare tyre from time to time.
