FTN Standards were absolutely ubiquitous and used for many spin off nets, but is a much deeper rabbit hole than one might think, as there were a few different options for connection between two nodes. A great many cities or other small geographic areas had their own area nets either piggybacking Fido, or just using similar setup and/or the same programs. There were alternatives like QWK based networking, and just about any other contemporary message network/technology was likely gated to some BBS or collection of BBSes SOMEWHERE. Before the average user had access to the Internet, and before the WWW was a thing, Bulletin boards WERE the online world for many. As a result, people got creative. --- Underminer The Undermine BBS - bbs.undermine.ca:423 Fidonet: 1:342/17 --- Synchronet 3.16a-Win32 NewsLink 1.102 * The Undermine - Calgary, AB - telnet://bbs.undermine.ca
