The 1920's prohibition was foisted on America because the men were
away at war (WWI) and women got the right to vote and the women and 
voters were the moving force....  In the end it was Wilson and the 
Democrats that gave us the war and women's suffrage and prohibition with 
the promise of reducing the drunk husbands beating their wives and 
reducing domestic violence.  And there were the usual suspects like the 
religious zealots, but then they were mostly the ones NOT off fighting a 
  war weren't they.  Women and Democrats and religious zealots,  and 
incidentally the number of bar stools and wive beating's went and 
criminals in prison went up during prohibition. What else happened while 
the troops were away and Democrats and women and religious zealots were 
"guarding the home front"  they created the Federal Reserve an income 
tax... two more failed government entities as was the FBI later created 
to enforce Prohibition and the Gangsters created by Prohibition, and 
incidentally all of those... The Federal Reserve and the 
IRS/INCOME-TAXES and the FBI are all causing our FAILED ECONOMY and the 
failure of America.

The true Irony being that FDR DEMOCRATS repealed Prohibition and 
replaced it with an alcohol tax. Oddly enough they had no power to ban 
alcohol for consumption so they passed the Prohibition amendment, then 
when they repealed Prohibition with another Amendment 1932 they also 
created the alcohol tax in that amendment... But no Amendments for gun 
control laws or gun bans or to create the Department of Education... or 
to give out taxes as transfer payments to people calling it welfare... 
Democrats just ignored the Constitution after that.

1921 was Republican Austerity... and it worked 1929 was in reality the
