Psalm 2: Yield To King Jesus

Psalm 2

Proposition: You should yield to King Jesus.

In what sense do the nations rage against the Lord's anointed? There are 
at least four fulfillments of this prophecy.

David

David was the Lord's anointed (1 Samuel 16:13). He dashed the nations 
around him (2 Samuel 8:1-14) and ruled over them (2 Samuel 5:12), by 
God's enablement (2 Samuel 7:8-9). David was an initial fulfillment who 
showed that the nations raged against the Lord and His anointed.

Jesus Christ

In Acts 4:24-28, the believers applied this teaching in Psalm 2 to the 
nations who conspired to get Christ crucified. Herod (Luke 23:7-11) [the 
leader of the Jewish people at that time], Pontius Pilate (Matthew 
27:2-26) [the regional, Gentile governor from Rome] , and the Jewish 
people (Matthew 27:25), all conspired together in the crucifixion of 
Christ. It turns out this was God's predetermined plan to provide an 
atonement for our sins. Christ fulfilled this prophecy in Psalm 2 when 
the nations conspired together against Him at the crucifixion.

Jesus Christ

Revelation 19 shows that the nations will again rage against the Lord 
and His anointed when Christ returns. At this time, He will dash the 
nations to pieces, stomping them in the winepress of the fury of God's 
wrath (Revelation 19:15). 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 shows that when Christ 
returns, He will punish those who do not love the truth of the gospel 
with everlasting destruction, away from the presence of God. He will 
then rule over the nations with a rod of iron (Revelation 19:15). At 
Christ's return, the nations again will rage against the Lord and His 
anointed.

Unsaved Men

Romans 8:7 says that the natural man is at enmity against God. All men, 
in their fallen state, oppose God and that which they know to be His 
will. There is no neutral ground. You are either for Christ, or you are 
against Him (Matthew 12:30). No one who has not been born again through 
faith in Christ's death and resurrection for their sins, yields to King 
Jesus. We all, in our sinful state, apart from God's grace, rage against 
the Lord and His anointed. We see this today in society and in the 
governments of the world. Everything which is wrong and morally 
perverted is glamorized and enforced. Everything which is true and right 
gets persecuted and censored. The nations currently rage against the 
Lord and His anointed, because all the unregenerate within them are at 
enmity against the Lord and His anointed.

Exhortation

Trust in the King today. Believe that His death met God's righteous 
demands against your sin (1 John 2:2), and rely on that work alone to 
make you right with God (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is only when you trust 
Christ as Savior, that God enables you to yield to Him as your king 
(Romans 6). If you're already trusting Christ as Savior, then show that 
today, by yielding to King Jesus in your daily walk (Colossians 2:6).

Good News †

By dying on the cross, Christ canceled the legal debt of our sins 
against God (Colossians 2:14), and God validated this victory by raising 
Him from the grave (Romans 1:4). God is now able to justly declare 
sinners righteous (Romans 3:26) and spare them from His future wrath (1 
Thessalonians 1:10). This grace is freely given to all who place their 
trust in Him (Romans 6:23). Put your faith in the Lord and call on His 
name to be saved (Romans 10:9-13):
