They are > migrating. That is not what is meant by "Migratory Bird". =========== Bird migration is a seasonal movement of birds between breeding and wintering grounds that occurs twice a year. It is typically from north to south or from south to north. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_migration > > MIGRATE: migrated; migrating. 1. : to move from one country, place, or > locality to another. > > The barred owl has been increasing its range over the last CENTURY, > you stupid fuckwit. > > >>They were no sufficient trees between NE >>and NW before Europeans came to North Americand and settled the Great >>Plains. > > ROFLMAO > > You're too stupid to live, Baxter. Save the children and kill yourself > now. > ============= Barred owls are native to eastern North America. It is believed they began expanding west of the Mississippi River around the turn of the 20th century. This could have been a natural range expansion or human-caused, or a combination of both. One common theory is that the barred owls westward movement was precipitated by changes to the environment in the boreal forest and Great Plains as Europeans increasingly settled there and dramatically altered the landscape. This may have removed natural barriers that previously inhibited the barred owls westward expansion. https://www.fws.gov/project/barred-owl-management ========= STUPID dingleberry shitstain gun-pervert KKKlaun is just SOOOO stupid. But, of course, that's real science that won't fit on a bumper sticker =========== However, at some point less than 100 years ago barred owls began dispersing westward. Its believed that this was due, at least partially, to changes in habitat caused by a cessation of Native American burning in the plains after Europeans and other foreigners arrived. Lack of fire allowed trees to grow creating habitat bridges across the plains that facilitated barred owl movement. Barred owls were first reported in northern British Columbia in 1949; by 1959 they had reached southern British Columbia and then quickly expanded southward into Washington (1969), Oregon (1979), and northwestern California (1985). The barred owl now overlaps the entire range of the northern spotted owl. The earliest recorded observation of a barred owl in RNSP was in 1987, in the northern part of the national park near Howland Hill Outdoor School. Since that time the barred owl population in the park has exploded and the species now occurs https://www.nps.gov/redw/learn/nature/spotted-owl-and-barred-owl.htm =========== Kessina Lee points out that since humans bear responsibility for barred owls being here in the first place, we also bear some of the responsibility for protecting the spotted owls. Initially, the Great Plains prevented barred owls from moving beyond the forested East Coast. But as European settlers planted patches of forest and changed the climate, the owls were able to migrate westward. https://www.opb.org/article/2023/12/06/shooting-barred-owls-to-save- spotted-owls-in-the-northwest/ ============== Yellow Barred Owls only occur on the West Coast because Europeans planted trees across the great plains as windbreaks and parkland, allowing the owls to spread across the formerly treeless region. Prior to that, the species was confined to the East Coasttheir expansion to the Pacific is entirely the result of human interferance in the ecosystem. https://milliontrees.me/2020/11/21/barred-owls-in-the-cross-hairs-of- restorationists/
