Larry Niven's, "At The Core," (1966) had a whole fleet of alien planets
untethered to suns making a run out of the galaxy on purpose because
the core was exploding.  He and Edward M. Lerner continued the
supposition with a further four sequel books in their, "Fleet Of
Worlds," series.
