The T'aafhal Inheritance series by Doug Hoffman has a long-term war
between the Dark Lords (a slow-living race who live on an unbound
planet) and the fast-living races who live on sun-bound worlds in its
background, though the humans who crew the ancient warship found on
Earth have no direct dealings with them, only their warm-world minions.
