Sadly when Dune came out I was in a place where US magazines were hard to come by. In my late 30s and early 40s I was quite restricted in my spending and stopped reading SF magazines except for special issues which I would occassionally see at news stands here in SF. I am an old lady now and have a different viewpoint from my youth when very few SF stories gave women anything but a supporting role. bliss
