With the new update model, instead of updates being released as they became=
 available, only two update packages were released on the second Tuesday of=
 every month until Windows Server 2008 reached its end of life - one packag=
e containing security and quality updates, and a smaller package that conta=
ined only the security updates. Users could choose which package they wante=
d to install each month. Later in the month, another package would be relea=
sed which was a preview of the next month's security and quality update rol=
lup.

Hi guys! Thanks for all your help and suggestions! I've been meaning to rep=
ly but got bogged down on other projects.

From everything I gather here, it is now considered safe to install 4.0 on =
an SBS 2011 box (as long as it is fully patched and has all of the Exchange=
 service packs & rollups), correct?

In the meantime I've had a lot of luck cleaning my WSUS content and SUSDB f=
iles on my own. I've repeatedly run the WSUS Cleanup Wizard, even though it=
 times out and does a "node reset" nearly every time. I've been doing manua=
l shrinks and reorg's of the DB in SSMS. I've been running a variety of SQL=
 and PowerShell scripts that seem to help (I'll put those down below). In b=
its and pieces I've been able to manually decline over 100,000 unneeded upd=
ates (bringing me down from around 140,000 to just a little over 35,000 tod=
ay), a couple hundred at a time. I've reduced the size of my SUSDB from 18G=
B to 11.5GB, and reduced the size of my WSUS content folder from 40GB to un=
der 200MB today.

Just keep plugging away and maybe I can get it without needing 4.0, haha. ;=

Of critical importance: you should not install these tools on a server runn=
ing Exchange 2010. The prereqs for AAD Connect are WinRM 5.1 (updates power=
shell) and ive seen that break things on Exchange/SBS, most notably involvi=
ng SBS 2011 console and If i recall correctly Exchange management console.



Thanks for you reply, I think this is a great solution if you run SBS as a =
Virtual Machine, but there are a lot of people who run SBS 2011 as a physic=
al installation, because to virtualize a single SBS server you need an extr=
a windows server license for the host and adding System Center suite is ano=
ther additional costs. This is a problem for a lot of SBS customers, so to =
save money the built in backup solution is a cheap alternative, if you know=
 the limitations.
