There's some pretty neat ones online for free as web serials.  I just
finished the 3rd book/story arc for Vaudevillain last night.  It uses
a pretty common trope of being about a virtual reality game, but does
it quite well I thought.  The main character upon starting the virtual
reality game based around superheroes and villains, decides to be a
villain and play as one of those old cartoonish villains with the
suit, monocle and twirly moustache that comes up with weird and wacky
ways to take over the world but gets foiled all the time.

It's got 252 chapters at the moment and is at a natural stopping
point, so there's no immediate cliff hanging.

Also about Heroes and Villains, a fairly famous webserial from a while

It's about 1,600,000 words I believe.

Another one I quite like that's getting close to finishing is "A
Practical Guide to Evil". https://practicalguidetoevil.wordpress.com/
I felt it's MC has some similarities to Worms, but that's a good thing
really.  I do like strong female main characters.  The stories don't
really overlap too much, apart from how they both look a bit at the
differences between "good" and "evil", grey area's between them,
morality and the like.  They're not preachy about it though.

If you really want to buy some books, "Red Sister","Grey Sister" and
"Holy Sister" make quite a nice trilogy by Mark Lawrence.  Again,
strong female MC.  The story felt a bit more old school
fantasy/science fiction to me from a lot of the newer stuff I've read.

Another series with a female MC is Emperors Edge series by Lindsay
Buroker.  This one the MC isn't too physical, but instead comes up
zany plans that she pulls other people in to help with.  It's been a
while since I read it, but as I recall, I'd call it fantasy without
the magic, sword and bows, bit of gun powder.


Another series I liked was the Kutherian Gambit by Michael Anderle. A
bit of a power fantasy story, with an overpowered MC, but she's cool
and kicks butt so it's pretty fun.

I could probably keep typing for ever, but need to go play some
boardgames.
