As you can see, the Chrome web store reviews are nothing but complaints, but Google's not fixing it, so I bought paid for Malwarebytes, and it didn't detect the extension. Admittedly, I removed it as usual upon restarting, but there has to be something left in my system that prompts a reinstall on every restart.

i saw a lot of answers here but no one is what i'm looking for.i want to take screenshot from chrome extension just for the screen i see at the first time without scrolling the page.and "alert" the created file base64 path.


It actually does not work on Google pages as on the Extensions page, were it looks very natural to test your extension while developing.(Should be a way to test that before taking the snapshot, I think...)


I'm trying to build my first ever Chrome extension, and want it to take screenshots. I know Chrome has a captureVisibleTab API to get the visible area of the screen. I have gotten that to work. But, I want to be able to take partial screenshots (eg. user clicks and drags the mouse on the screen to select a certain rectangular area of content). How would this work on Chrome? I don't see an API for this, but I know Awesome Screenshot and some other screenshot extensions do this.


I am using .mouseup and .mousedown to detect mouse clicks and event.pageX and event.pageY to get coordinates on the page. But, how do I get a rectangle to show up on the page? I have to convert the webpage to a canvas, but I'm not quite sure how to do that. Also, once I get the selected area, how do I convert that to an image and get the dataURI like the return value that the chrome API gives?






The standard approach seems to be to scroll around the page and capture screenshots at each part and then stick them all together. The official google screen capture plugin does this, but I found it to be buggy (at least on Mac OSX), so I wrote my own full page screen capture extension.
