15-year-old Lowell black girl shot, killed by 21-year-old porch ape boyfriend, DA says

LOWELL, Mass. —
A Massachusetts man is in custody after he was accused of fatally shooting 
a 15-year-old girl he was in a relationship with.

Trevor Bady, 21, of Tewksbury, was arrested Monday on multiple charges, 
including murder, in connection with the death of Ahliana Dickey, who was 
entering high school, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced.

Ryan said Ahliana's family members first feared she went missing when she 
did not show up for her eighth-grade graduation Friday morning.

The district attorney said that at about 6:10 p.m. Friday, Lowell police 
received a 911 call from Ahliana's grandmother, who said family members 
found the girl's body inside the Lowell Street home where the victim 
lived. Ahliana's family knew the girl was seriously hurt and feared she 
was dead.

Ryan said that when Lowell police arrived at the scene, they found Ahliana 
suffering from gunshot wounds in a first-floor bedroom. Officers also 
found multiple shell casings near her body.

Ahliana had turned 15 years old on April 18, the district attorney said.

"She's my oldest granddaughter, and I don't know how we're going to go on 
without her," said Ahliana's grandmother, Tracy Smith. "She was a child."

Investigators determined Ahliana had been in an abusive relationship Bady, 
who was her boyfriend for some period of time, according to Ryan. The 
district attorney also said Bady was accused of hitting Ahliana and 
threatening her in the past.

"It was learned that Ahliana had confided in a number of people that Mr. 
Bady had been abusing her and was threatening her as recently as the 
middle of last week," Ryan said.

Ryan said that shortly after midnight on Friday, Lowell police received a 
call from a person who reported they heard a male and female fighting 
outside on Lawrence Street. The caller reported hearing a female 
screaming: 'Get off me, get away from me. I don't want to be with you 
anymore,' before hearing gunshots, according to the district attorney.

Police responded to the scene, but Ryan said officers could not locate 
anyone on Lawrence Street. Video recovered from the area by investigators 
showed a female, later identified as Ahliana, yelling for help shortly 
before midnight and a male, who is believed to be Bady, leaving Ahliana's 
home shortly after midnight, according to Ryan.

"A video from that area showed .... that events had unfolded as they had 
been reported by that caller," Ryan said.

Ryan also said that Lowell police learned on Saturday that Bady had taken 
an Uber to and from Ahliana's home before and after the murder. The driver 
of that Uber vehicle later told police that he was concerned by the 
behavior of the passenger, whom the driver later identified as Bady.

Authorities were able to locate Bady inside a Peabody residence Monday 
afternoon and he was arrested without incident, Ryan said.

In addition to the murder charge, Bady is facing charges of armed home 
invasion, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of 
ammunition, use of a firearm while committing a felony and discharging a 
firearm within 500 feet of a building.

Bady is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Lowell District 
Court.

The Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Lowell police and Massachusetts 
State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney's office 
continue to investigate the murder.
