This time, however, Michelle Hudson, 36, was behind the wheel of an orange Husqvarna riding lawn mower, investigators allege. Hudson was arrested Friday night after a witness contacted police to report that the defendant “appeared to be intoxicated” as she rode the mower in the parking lot of a Casey’s convenience store in Tiffin, a city outside Iowa City. According to a criminal complaint, Hudson performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests and “showed measurable signs of impairment” like slurred speech, poor balance, and bloodshot, watery eyes. While her breath test registered under the legal limit, Hudson was “believed to be on a drug,” cops reported. Hudson, who refused to provide a urine sample, was arrested for operating under the influence and driving while barred, both of which are aggravated misdemeanors. Hudson is being held without bond in the county jail in advance of an initial court appearance. In July 2022, Hudson was convicted of operating under the influence after her Chevrolet Trailblazer was pulled over on an Iowa City street. “The defendant admitted to using methamphetamine two days prior,” reported a cop who noted that a drug recognition expert evaluated Hudson and concluded she was “impaired from a central nervous system stimulant.” Hudson’s rap sheet includes convictions for theft; possession of drug paraphernalia; criminal mischief; violating a protective order; meth possession; and assault.
