We have enough problems to deal with:). In the US the purchaser needs to provide ID when buying a gun, and it's illegal to buy a gun if it's intended for another person. And it's illegal in both the US and Canada to smuggle them. So it's likely most of the guns that are used in crimes in Canada were stolen from legal owners. It's so easy to smuggle something small like a gun. If it's going to be stopped it will probably have to be by putting your gun criminals away for a long time.
