"Oh my god, they’re going to subsidize the other grocery stores:

So we know that Mamdani plans to open city-run grocery stores in New 
York City (the first one is expected by the end of 2027, don’t hold your 
breath, public health PhDs are likely getting brought in as general 
contractors), but did you know that the plan is also to subsidize the 
nearby shops that will be hurt by the government markets? Yes. See, 
surrounding grocery stores won’t be able to compete with the state-run 
stores’ lower prices. But the Mamdani administration has an answer for 
that: funding neighboring grocery stores so they can lower their prices 
too. One city representative said they could offer "policies and 
programs, grants, incentives that can come alongside these grocery 
stores to support other local independent businesses."

I am obsessed with this saga. By the end of it, Mamdani is going to 
decide it’s cheaper to just send free yams to everyone in the city and 
call it a day. One fascinating thing about giving stuff away is that 
people really love it! And they are too dumb to connect the dots about 
where the money came from. So Mamdani got a lot of glowing press for his 
recent date-night program, where hundreds of parents could drop their 
kids off for taxpayer-funded childcare at recreation centers one evening.

Do people realize that this is paid for by all those rich New Yorkers he 
hates so much? Like, do they realize that the abundance and wealth of a 
society that can do this comes from money being generated by someone, 
somewhere, and it ain’t Mamdani? No, they do not. They do not want to 
thank their local hedge fund analyst working the 9-9-6 and paying some 
50 percent of his income in taxes. No, no; Mamdani gave these parents a 
night off! So fun! Eat the rich!"
