Oh, he obviously grabbed the first idea that arrived and embraced it
completely; as usual, no effort was made to ask whether it deserved
such devotion.  Mayhaps the guy had a gun.  It isn't exactly unusual
for a person to have a gun, is it?

We don't even know the guy's name... and any soldier of fortune cop
will carry a throw-down, but we don't know that, either.  Moreover, I
do know that there won't be any credible investigation besides
whatever they say it is.  The fact that they *would* cover it up
doesn't bother me; corrupt cops have done that for years.  What
bothers me is the ease with which the official story will be accepted
by the O.P.  There will be no struggle, no curiosity, no visible
attempt to wrestle with the complexity of our situation.  He will take
no effort to reflect before declaring to the world that the matter is
now fully explored.

Then he called me a liar for simply suggesting that it's complicated.

Oh, well... I have been on Usenet since it was part of ARPANET, so I'm
used to it.
