The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated over $1 billion 
for a migrant assistance program over the past two fiscal years, but now 
it is running out of cash for disaster relief as Hurricane Helene rages 
on and more storms loom.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said on Wednesday that 
FEMA does not have enough funds to make it through hurricane season, The 
Associated Press reported. Though resources are running short for 
Americans displaced by Helene, the agency spent big on a program 
providing “humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants” after their 
release from Department of Homeland Security custody.

FEMA disbursed the funds as part of its Shelter and Services Program, 
sending money to help cities, counties and states grapple with the 
migrant crisis, records show. Shelter, food, transportation, acute 
medical care and personal hygiene supplies are among the goods and 
services provided to migrants using FEMA’s funds.

Congress and the Biden-Harris administration apportioned funding to FEMA 
specifically for the Shelter and Services Program, according to federal 
documents.

A new facility is open in Greensboro to house unaccompanied child 
migrants, but there is little information about how the center will operate.

The Influx Care Facilities (ICF) at the Greensboro Children's Center is 
now operational and ready to receive children. However, operators told 
WRAL News no children are currently scheduled to be placed there.

The 100-acre property at 4334 Hobbs Road is surrounded by a fence with 
security guards posted at all entrances. WRAL News visited on Friday and 
saw very few people coming and going.

The ICF Greensboro Children's Center in northwest Greensboro was 
formerly the American Hebrew Academy.

Government documents show the U.S. Department of Health and Human 
Services is leasing the property, paying more than $50 million for five 
years.

Residents of a Maine town have hit out at the $13million construction of 
a complex of 60 apartments for asylum seekers, where they can live rent 
free for two years then pay a fraction of the rental price.

Locals in Brunswick have expressed fury over the project, which is being 
funded by a mix of private and public money and which has been heavily 
criticized by Donald Trump Jr.

The apartment complex in Brunswick is one of the many projects being 
launched by the town in what critics have labeled a 'Taj Mahal', 
red-carpet welcome for asylum seekers.

There are currently 180 apartments in the Brunswick Landing complex 
available for anyone to rent. A one bedroom unit costs $1,800 a month, 
while a two-bedroom costs $2,300 a month.

The new buildings for asylum seekers will allow residents to live 
rent-free for up to two years while they obtain work permits.

Then, if they obtain a job that pays half of the average local salary of 
$60,000, they will only have to pay a third of the rental price. It 
boils down to a monthly cost of around $500 for a one bedroom, and $690 
for a two bedroom.

Democrats want to offer health care to undocumented immigrants.

Americans are divided about providing more comprehensive 
government-backedcoverage to the roughly 11 million undocumented 
immigrants in the US. Some 59% of Americans say that such coverage 
should not be available to undocumented immigrants, according to a CNN 
poll conducted in late June.

Among those whothink it should be, there’s a big disparity along party 
lines. Some 66% of Democrats supporting giving government coverage to 
the undocumented, but only 10% of Republicans feeling the same way.

The Democrats’ position has given Trump fodder to attack his opponents.

“How about taking care of American Citizens first!?” he argued on 
Twitter after the first Democratic debate, in June.
